Wietse Braam

Wietse Braam was born on the 27th of May 1979. His passion for making music started around the age of 10, when he bought his first keyboard. He learned himself how to read sheet music and could often be found in the library, browsing the sheet music sections. It took some time for him to start searching for a band, but when some friends from a local youth club where searching for a synthesizer player, he bought a new synth and joined them. After some failed startups, he was asked to join Annatar. He was active in this band for 11 years and was able to do a lot of gigs, ranging from small youth clubs to support gigs and festivals. After 11 years it was time for something new, he left Annatar on a friendly basis and started Gilraen. Unfortunately this was not meant to be and the band got to a premature halt after 1.5 years. A year later he joined the symphonic prog metal band Derivation. There was an immediate “click” within this band and Derivation picked up huge momentum. After a year of writing music and rehearsals, he was back on stage. Wietse has a broad range of musical influences. Ranging from classical music to metal. Irish/celtic folk music has a place in his hearth as well as industrial, dark wave and synth pop. Some bands and artists that inspire him are: Lacrimosa, Project Pitchfork, VNV Nation, Haggard, Theron, Nightwish and Lorena McKennit.
